Columbia Journal of Race and Law

For Authors

Submit Manuscript

OVERVIEW:
CJRL publishes two times per year, once during the fall and once during the spring. The Journal welcomes the submission of original manuscripts — article, note, essay and book review submissions from scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.

REQUIREMENTS:
All manuscript correspondence should be submitted through Scholastica. We ask that both text and footnotes are typed, double-spaced and conform to the most recent edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation. Manuscripts must be between 40 and 60 pages. Along with the piece, please submit a resume and a brief description of how your work advances legal scholarship and is distinct from other publications that pertain to similar issues. Submissions from current students will not be considered.

TIMING:
We accept submissions on a rolling basis, although it is best to submit by the end of June to be reviewed for the Fall issue and by the end of December to be reviewed for the Spring issue.

REVIEW PROCESS:
All submitted manuscripts that are considered in the scope of the journal undergo a blind peer review process, which means that while peer reviewer identities are kept confidential, author identities are made known to reviewers.

REQUEST TO EXPEDITE REVIEW:
Authors may request an expedited review of a submission when faced with a deadline for response to another publication offer. Requests for expedited review may be made through Scholastica. Requests for expedited review should include:

-Authors’ names, email addresses, and direct phone numbers
-Submission title
-Existing offer and deadline
-Date by which the author would like a response

We will endeavor to accommodate expedited review requests, although we may ask the author to request an extension from the publication that extended their existing offer. We wish to ensure that each author receives a full and adequate review.
